These are brokers selling individual medical insurance products. The cost common of these products are individual major medical insurance policies, sold to an individual  or family. There are also short term medical plans for an individual between jobs, or waiting until his new employer's group policy kicks in. Along with major medical insurance that health insurance agents sell, are two other health and accident policies. The first is a hospital indemnity policy. A hospital indemnity policy provides an additional daily set cash amount for each day the individual spends in a hospital. The other policy is strictly an accident policies, and does not cover any conditions that a medical condition may cost. The insured accident victim is covered, usually with a weekly benefit, a set amount that individual can not work. The accident policies may pay additional benefits for loss or an arm, leg, or eyesight.

There are two less known medical insurance policies sold by health insurance agents. The first is a cancer only policy. With cancer being still a major cost of death, rated between heart condition and stroke, many clients are interested. The cancer policy may pay either daily benefits, set amounts, or a combination of both. The other is a dread disease policy, which pays a lump sum benefit for various heart, cancer, and stoke types and conditions.

Next to major medical insurance, the next most commonly sold individual health insurance  by health insurance agents is disability income. Disability insurance is different that workmen's comp insurance. Disability income insurance helps provide a loss of income, while you are unable to work, do to an accident or medical condition caused off the job. The two types of disability insurance are blue collar and white collar. Blue collar covers individuals in higher risk jobs like farming or manufacturing, while white collar provides typically longer term disability payments. Note: Many former big name "white collar" disability specialty insurance companies, are servicing but not longer selling deluxe packages. Right now their claims exceed payments paid in.

Just because an insurance agent has a license to sell life, health or variable insurance does not mean he uses all his licenses nor sells a variety of products.
