Some small group health plans cover up to 25 people. The policy most commonly sold by the broker is that of major medical health coverage. The policy may be one providing with choice of doctors, a HMO, or PPO. The HMO requires that the insured only visits a set list of doctors, and these doctors in turn must refer, then a referral process to an approved specialist. The PPO plan  means Personal Physician Organization, and the insured can choose a doctor they prefer.

Other coverages that group insurance brokers sell are either fully paid by the employer, partially employer paid, or payroll deduction, meaning premiums are deducted from an employees wages.
